Fire Systems Tester
Full-time | Permanent | North East England | Real Living Wage + Business Mileage
A practical, reliable role with full training provided
Nortec Fire is looking for a reliable and organised person to carry out weekly fire alarm tests and monthly emergency light inspections at customer sites across the North East.
This is not a qualified engineering role and previous fire alarm experience is not required, although a technical background such as experience in facilities, caretaking, property services, maintenance, delivery driving, security, would be preferable. Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) would also be beneficial. The work is straightforward, but it does need someone who is dependable, punctual, comfortable working independently and able to complete the records properly every time.
What you will be doing
- Travelling to customer sites across the North East using your own vehicle.
- Carrying out weekly fire alarm tests in line with the customer schedule.
- Carrying out monthly emergency light inspections.
- Recording results using Nortec Fire’s electronic job / reporting system.
- Letting the office know about any defects, access problems or customer queries.
- Working independently day to day, with support from the Nortec Fire office team.
- Representing Nortec Fire professionally when visiting customer premises.

About you – required skills and experience:
- Minimum of 2 years fire safety industry experience, DBS clearance (we can arrange), ECS card, full clean driving licence
- Strong knowledge of the main manufacturer’s products and systems (in particular Gent and Advanced) is required as well as experience of operating to British Standards at all times, preferably within a BAFE Registered company
- Qualifications including FIA, BAFE, NVQ level 3 would all be expected and demonstrated on every task
- Proven ability to deliver high customer service standards is fundamental as is working within a close-knit team
- Strong IT literacy to manage tasks within an app-based system as well as preparing compliance certificates and service reports
- Well organised and thorough; used to working with asset management software and streamlined documentation/processes
- Able to work efficiently and effectively on your own, as well as with others in the team, including supporting apprentices to develop their knowledge and skills.
About the role:
Installing, maintaining, and servicing fire alarm equipment within commercial premises such as retail businesses, hospital and healthcare, and commercial/corporate environments as well as supporting the design and commissioning of systems depending on your experience and expertise
- Servicing, fault-finding, and maintaining addressable and conventional fire alarm systems and other equipment
- Installing, maintaining and servicing emergency lighting, and extinguishing equipment with efficiency and being responsive to any issues raised during the visits
- Undertaking weekly and monthly testing routines with troubleshooting to ensure systems are fully operational
- Completing and documenting paperwork and ensuring clients are compliant with fire safety standards and practices
- Offering advice and guidance to our customers so they are reassured about their fire safety
